What is a QR code?

A QR (Quick Response) code is a scannable image that stores data — a URL, phone number, WiFi credentials, or contact card. Point any modern smartphone camera at it and the phone opens the encoded action.

Best practices for printing

Always test-scan before mass printing. Use SVG or PDF exports for crisp scaling. Keep at least a 4-module quiet zone (margin) and enough contrast between foreground and background.

Recommended minimum print sizes

  • Business cards / menus: 1 in (2.5 cm)
  • Flyers / posters: 2 in (5 cm)
  • Storefront signs: 4 in (10 cm)
  • Vehicle wraps / billboards: 8+ in (20+ cm)

Error correction levels

  • L — 7% recovery. Smallest code, cleanest surfaces.
  • M — 15% recovery. Good default.
  • Q — 25% recovery. Light branding.
  • H — 30% recovery. Use with logos or rough surfaces.

Common business uses

Restaurant menus, business cards, invoice payments, vehicle graphics, yard signs, review request cards, WiFi guest access, product packaging, and event check-ins.

Frequently asked questions

Is this QR code generator really free?+

Yes. It's 100% free, no login, no watermark, no limits. Generate and download as many QR codes as you need.

Do QR codes expire?+

Static QR codes generated here never expire. The data is encoded directly into the image, so as long as the URL or content you encoded still works, the QR code will keep working.

Do you upload or store my data?+

No. Everything runs locally in your browser. Nothing you type or upload leaves your device.

What's the best format for print?+

Use SVG or PDF for anything printed — business cards, signs, menus, vehicle graphics. They stay sharp at any size.

How small can a printed QR code be?+

Aim for at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) for close-range scans (business cards, menus) and at least 8 inches (20 cm) for scans from 6+ feet away (signs, vehicle wraps).

Can I add my logo to the QR code?+

Yes. Upload a PNG, JPG, or SVG. Keep the logo under 25% of the QR code size to maintain scan reliability.
